How To Get the Best Value For Your Pre-Loved Items
Selling your second-hand items has various benefits; for some people it’s an easy way to make some quick cash, while for others it has to do with helping the environment (read more on reasons to resell here). But the one thing everyone wants when selling their pre-loved stuff is to obtain the best price possible.
Here are some tips we’ve put together to help you increase the value of your pre-loved items:
Tip #1: Clean, Clean & Clean Some More!
Most people reselling their items have to price them lower simply because they look very worn out, sometimes even if they're not heavily used. But I’m here to tell you that a little bit of leather or suede cleaner can go a long way!
You can easily sell your bags and shoes at a much higher price point just by putting in a little extra time and effort. Spruce them up to look in much better condition as a lot of the marks that you think are permanent, are actually not, case in point below:
You can see the dark marks on the bottom and corners of this bag. Marks like these will of course, reduce the price at which you can sell the bag.
All I did was take some leather cleaner (pro-tip: clear hand sanitizer also does the trick) and an old soft cloth and quickly wiped down the bag. No scrubbing required!
Voila! The dark marks are gone and I instantly added a few thousand rupees to the sale price of this bag.
Tip #2: Stuff Your Bags And Shoes!
Find some old newspaper, plastic bags, or any other malleable material and stuff your bags and shoes. Stuffing them helps maintain the shape of the item, especially during transport. Nobody wants to spend a lot of money on a bag that has creases in the leather or shoes that have indentations, so avoid this by making sure you stuff your items, especially when shipping them.

Tip #3: Know The Item's Worth!
Knowing the original cost of your items can help you get a fair sale price. There are many online websites where you can look up your bag to see what price other people are selling the same or similar bags for. Do keep in mind that in Pakistan you might not be able to get the same price as international markets but it’s a good comparison point to have and you might not even realize what valuable treasures you own!
It’s not only important to know the original price but the current market price as well. For example, limited editions or Chanel and Hermes bags can increase in value with the passage of time.
You can also always check Secret Stash to see how much similar items have sold for, and price your items accordingly. Our team is also of course, always there to help guide you on this front if you're selling with us.
Tip #4: Save Everything!
Always keep your dust bags, authenticity certificate, care cards, boxes, receipts and even the shopping bags if you can (especially for luxury items). Not only does storing your items in dust bags and boxes help keep them protected while they sit on your shelf, but they help verify their authenticity and can fetch you a much higher price point when you're ready to re-sell them!
