Return of the Belt: A Style Guide
90's fashion has been experiencing a revival in the past few years. This means comfy oversize shirts, high-waisted vintage jeans and statement accessories are once again having their moment.
Leather belts, the unsung heroes that are probably wasting away at the back of your closet, are the key to styling those thrifted mom jeans, flowy dresses or tucked-in tops to get a cinched silhouette with minimal effort.
This week we'll be sharing our favourite ways to style belts with your updated wardrobe to create that sexy hourglass and stay on trend.
Buckle Up
Large buckle belts play well with dresses, skirts and even over long trench coats. A tan leather belt with a round or square buckle draws the eye to the center of your body, so that even straight shirt-dresses and big coats don't overwhelm your frame.
Try this studded Jil Sander or this oval buckled Gucci over your favourite tan coat or summer dress to shake things up.
Logo Mania
Logo accessories saw a dip in the mid-2000's but some —particularly Gucci belts— have started to pop up all over the place again thanks to Instagram influencers. The iconic interlocked G logo can add some interest to an otherwise basic jeans-and-shirt fit.
Try a fresh, colourful version of this trend with this canvas Gucci belt with green leather trim.
Petite Cincher
If you're not into wide belts but still want to cinch your slouch-fit jeans for a more modern silhouette, fear not; a slim belt, especially one with a leather encased buckle, has a less flashy presence in your outfit while still keeping things streamlined. Black and brown belts both go well with blue denim, but you can also make them blend in with matching dark pants.
French tuck your sweaters or loose tops and seal the deal with this genuine Ostrich leather belt, available in two colours.
Animal Print
Another late 90's staple that got a classier 2010's upgrade: animal prints! A printed belt can be the secret to adding some colour to a plain white dress, or jazz up an otherwise boring outfit. Leopard, cheetah, crocodile, cow...the possibilities are endless.
For our take on this trend, try this embossed faux snakeskin belt by Escada, available in two colours.
